How A Zombie Apocalypse Would Affect Runners

The hubs and I just finished binge-watching Season 3 of The Walking Dead, and between all of my nightmares, colorful episode commentary, and Norman Reedus-induced squeals, I had a thought. What if you are a runner? Yes, I’m aware that essentially the world has come to an end, loved ones have died, and people are more worried about survival than fitness, but humor me for a second. Really. What about the runners? I don’t mean holyshitrunforyourlife running. I mean relaxed, casual, just-because running. What if you eat, sleep, and breathe running? Would something like a zombie apocalypse stop you in your tracks, cold turkey? What if you’re a fast runner?…

You Might Be A Runner If…

The hubs wrote a blog post yesterday that, frankly, I’m jealous of. It’s funny and Buzzfeed-y and all true. And I wish it were mine. So because he vowed to share his life—and everything in it—with me, I’m allowed to steal his post. Plus, half of the pictures are mine anyway. Here’s a sneak peek, and head over to You Don’t Know Zack to see it in its silly entirety: 1. You take shoe-selfies. 2.  Your laundry room has two distinct piles. Normal clothes, and running clothes. Only one will knock your ass to the ground upon entering the room. Thanks love!

    Runner TMI

A conversation about racing weight with a friend and fellow runner on Twitter a few weeks ago got me thinking—there are things that we runners talk about freely that might make other people balk. Or gag. I don’t know if it’s the amount of time we spend with one other, the way we see one other at our worst and smelliest, or that these conversations seem more “scientific” and less taboo, but things can get quite interesting at mile 14 of a long run. Here are some of the more common topics you may overhear: Weight—Despite the stereotype of women never discussing weight, it doesn’t faze me. Weight plays a factor in running,…

    Summer Racing Schedule

Well, I went from having no set summer racing plans to having a packed schedule! Thanks to Alabama Outdoors, David Tosch and Southeast Trail Runs, Birmingham Track Club, and Resolute Running, Birmingham will be jam-packed with some great trail runs this summer. I feel like trail running has exploded in the past year—or maybe it’s because I actually started paying attention to it. Either way, it’ll be exciting to see more road runners discover how much more fun trails are. Here’s my schedule: July 4 – Peavine Falls Fourth of July Race – 8.2 miles July 20 – Turkey Creek “Float Your Boat” Race – 8K July 27 – Hotter…

    A Week With Resolute Running

This past week I took a few classes at Resolute Running, a relatively new training center for runners in Birmingham run by Alex Morrow. Resolute Running held a week of free trial classes, which I jumped on instantly—obviously. It was fun to try different classes and workouts that were catered specifically for runners—every move will make you a stronger runner in one way or another. I always talk about wanting to incorporate more cross-training into my schedule, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to get back at it. On Tuesday I went to R-Dynamics, a class meant to improve a runner’s speed and agility. We spent an hour doing…

    Running Without A Purpose

So my posts are still trickling in slowly—I just haven’t gotten 100% back into real-life mode yet. Denial? Probably. Despite my best intentions to keep up my mileage during our vacations in May, I only ran 94.35 miles (lowest this year by 30+ miles) and gained 7+ pounds. Oops? As a runner, I can’t deny that a huge chunk of my trip excitement came from being able to run and explore a new location. It’s boring to run the same route every week. I packed both my road and trail shoes, and planned on busting out 30-40 miles. I even wrote about ways to stay active on vacation earlier in…
