    Mercedes Marathon Weekend Race Review

    After so much excitement and preparation, it’s hard to believe that the Mercedes Marathon Weekend has come and gone. I adore the Mercedes Marathon. It is near and dear to my heart because it was my first marathon last year, and I love running through downtown Birmingham and seeing all of the different neighborhoods that make Birmingham unique. It was an awesome weekend full of firsts—my first official half marathon, my first marathon relay, and my first (but not last) time running for the Bell Center.     Running for Gracie

    Today’s post is all about perspective. I want to share a story with everyone to help raise awareness for the Bell Center for Early Intervention, and to remind us how lucky we are. Gracie was the daughter of Teresa Crain, a fellow Village Runner and this year’s chair of the Mercedes Marathon. In 2007 Teresa was pregnant with her third daughter when the doctors discovered through a sonogram that the baby was not developing correctly. Further testing showed that Gracie had Trisomy 18, a genetic disorder where 90% of babies don’t live past their first birthday.
