The Hip Bone’s Connected To The…

So I wrote last week about how I skipped all of my Miami runs for a mysterious groin/hip injury. I also wrote yesterday about how I tried to pace the hubs at the Mercedes Marathon, failed halfway through, and was left walking like a rocking horse—as Zack affectionately calls my limp. Tired of me bitching yet? All jokes aside, my hip hurt like a motherfucker post-race on Sunday. And I can tolerate pain. It was bad enough for me to drag myself to the doctor first thing Monday morning, where I had x rays taken, my range of motion checked, and my fashionista card revoked. The x rays didn’t show…

The Time My Groin Ruined Miami

What do you do when you’re in Miami, during your peak week of 50-miler training, and you can’t run? Blog and bitch about it, of course. I went to Miami for a few days on business, and like a good little student I planned my scheduled runs out perfectly. Treadmill runs, local runs, runs around the resort grounds. I called ahead to make sure I could have access to the fitness center at 3:30 a.m. I made sure to note that the jogging path (The name! Ugh!) had water fountains on it. I had 65 miles to cover in five days while helping work a major company event, so a little preplanning was…

    Crack Food

I am fully convinced that some foods are laced with crack. You know, the ones that you can’t.stop.eating. Not favorite foods per se, but delicious, orgasmic morsels of goodness that you can’t explain why you like. Until now. Crack. Every now and then, I come across a food that is just too good to put down. And by put down, I mean take my hands off it long enough to breathe properly between bites. Because I’m at my peak week of training  for my 50-miler next month, I’m hungry 24/7 and found this to be an appropriate outlet to discuss my eating habits. So I made a list of all…

    STR50K Race Recap

Well, the STR50K is in the books! While it was my fastest 50K so far (5:38:34), it certainly wasn’t my easiest—running that far on the road sucks. Plus, it doesn’t count because it wasn’t a real race. And there was a lot of down time. But it’s still one more 50K notch to put on my belt! You know when you have a run where everything is perfect and you feel like you can run forever? Yeah, yesterday was not that day. Within the first half mile I got a nagging calf cramp that I had to stop and stretch out, and the rest of the run took more effort than it…

All Aboard The 50 Miler Train

Here we go—I just bought an extended pass on the ultra running crazy train. I decided to run my first 50 miler at the end of the month. I had hopes to register for the Lookout Mountain 50 in December but waited too long to pull the trigger and it sold out. Damn procrastination. Though I’m not too sad about it, because it monsooned that day and I heard it was absolutely miserable. So instead of waiting to race the Lake Martin 50 in March, I came up with a better idea—why not create my own 50 miler? I mean, running is running, whether you get a medal or not. I…

    Hello, 2014 Running Goals

January 1st—resolution time! Cliche? Yes. Sometimes necessary? Also yes. Everyone and their mom is drafting up a list of resolutions, or goals, or ideas that will be abandoned even before the Christmas trees get kicked to the curb. So why not join in? I wrote a goal post last year, and thought it’d be fun to revisit it: PR a marathon—√ Run my first half marathon—√ x3 Cross train—√- Do 5 pull ups—*snort* Better nutrition—√+ Run a 50k—√ x3 Run 1,200 miles—√ – 1,665 total Get killer abs—HA! Overall, not too shabby. Room for improvement, but it was a great year. So without further ado, I present my 2014 fitness…
